Oil & Gas Bridge Plugs Set At 1500M!

Inflatable bridge plugs perform a very simple yet critical task of sealing wells for abandonment. Once set at a predetermined depth and inflated a concrete plug is poured on top of the packer and set.

RIPE recently dispatched 9 Bridge Plugs in the following specification to a large oil & gas exploration and production client focused on exploring and developing petroleum.

3 ½” Bridge Plug

  • 88.9mm Packer Diameter, to suit 5½” 15.5# & 5½” 23#
  • 1000mm Effective length, Fixed End
  • Carbon Steel / Natural Rubber Construction
  • EUE Left-hand back-off sub thread
  • Complete check-valve assembly with anti-inflation tripping mechanism
  • Percentage inflation: ~15%

5 ½” Bridge Plug

  • 139.7mm Packer Diameter, to suit 7″ 26#, 7″ 23# & 7″ 29#
  • 1000mm Effective length, Fixed End
  • Carbon Steel / Natural Rubber Construction
  • EUE Left-hand back-off sub thread
  • Complete check-valve assembly with anti-inflation tripping mechanism
  • Percentage inflation: ~12%

7-5/8″ Bridge Plug

  • 193.7mm Packer Diameter, to suit 9-5/8″ 47#
  • 1000mm Effective length, Fixed End
  • Carbon Steel / Natural Rubber Construction
  • EUE Left-hand back-off sub thread
  • Complete check-valve assembly with anti-inflation tripping mechanism
  • percentage inflation: ~14%

RIPE’s abandonment bridge plugs are designed with two in-line one way check valves to prevent over inflation and to also lock in positive pressure preventing deflation once run in tools are removed.

The packers performed seamlessly across all areas to depths of up to 1500m!

“John, Your first Bridge Plug that we set at 1250 meters inside 7 inch casing, went very well with no problems.“

“We ran the 3-1/2 inch Bridge Plug into a deviated cased hole 5-1/2 inch casing to around 1500m. Set the Bridge Plug and disengaged. All went well again.”

Kimberley’s Well Decommissioning Project

A couple of months later, we touched base with the client who was very pleased, the well decommissioning project had been successfully completed. They had even repurposed the pine crates that the bridge plugs were freighted in for veggie beds onsite around the mess. They will be looking forward to a RIPE harvest in the coming months!
